The Legacy of May Burt Persaud
Abstract
In this article, the author recalls translating Jeremiah 17:5-10 under May Persaud’s tutelage and reflects on the meaning of the passage for our time. Jeremiah 17:5-8 may be considered part of Jeremiah’s confessions or laments. Jeremiah can help a reader today understand the value of lament as a means of dialog and restoring relationships. Jeremiah can be understood as a type of Jesus. Jeremiah did indeed experience the blessings expressed in Jeremiah 17:8, as can those who seek to speak a prophetic word today.
